Dubai airline Emirates to accept Bitcoin payments

A leading global airline, Emirates, has announced it will be accepting BTC payments in a bid to expand its reach. The airline’s Chief Operating Officer, Adel Ahmed Al-Redha said this during a media gathering held at the Arabian Travel Market.

Per a report from a local media outlet, the company is also considering the launch of non-fungible tokens (NFTs) to be traded on the company’s website. In addition, the airline may implement the use of blockchain technology to keep aircraft records as well as use the metaverse to bring processes such as operations, training, website sales, and other airline-related processes into the digital world, making them more interactive.

In the light of this, the company will be recruiting new employees to focus on the blockchain-related aspects of the airline, including crypto payments, blockchain tracking, metaverse and NFTs which will be introduced soon.

Cryptocurrencies and NFTs have seen significant adoption recently. Mainstream businesses seem to be developing confidence in the use of these technologies because of the ease and convenience their uses bring. With crypto, customers can pay for goods and services with a fraction of the fee they would pay using traditional methods.

While other airlines such as Volaris El Salvador and many others have accepted Bitcoin for payment, airlines are not the only ones accepting payment in the top digital currency. Recently, a Japan-based automobile dealer, SBI Motor Japan announced it will start accepting BTC and XRP as payment for its used cars.

Clearly, though, this is just the beginning of such adoptions as more and more businesses are coming to see the ease and convenience of using crypto for payment. Meanwhile, the crypto market has been down, with BTC losing over 50% from its all-time high of $69,000 and now trading at just over $30,000.
