Elon Musk reaches deal to buy Twitter for $44 billion

Elon Musk’s offer to acquire Twitter and make it "The platform for free speech around the Globe" has been accepted.

After announcing he owns 9% in shares in early April 2022, Twitter shares have climbed nearly 30%.

Tesla’s CEO Elon Musk has made an initial offer to acquire Twitter on the 14th of April quoting:

Taking Twitter private at $54.20 should be up to shareholders, not the Board

Amongst the new features to be implemented are an edit button and open-source algorithms to increase trust.

Following Musk’s announcement that he had secured funding, the Board went into negotiations with Tesla's co-founder on Friday and the deal has been confirmed on Monday, the 25th of April 2022 following the board’s approval and shareholders’ vote.

Free speech is the bedrock of a functioning democracy, and Twitter is the digital town square where matters vital to the future of humanity are debated

Elon Musk

I also want to make Twitter better than ever by enhancing the product with new features, making the algorithms open source to increase trust, defeating the spambots, and authenticating all humans. Twitter has tremendous potential - I look forward to working with the company and the community of users to unlock it.
