Crypto Scam Alert - Apple users should be worried

The latest phishing scam left a single person without $650.000 worth of crypto and it could happen to you too. 

Here is how they did it: The person received multiple text messages asking him to reset his Apple ID password. He then received a phone call from “Apple Inc”. He was told on the phone that there was suspicious activity on his Apple ID and they asked for the one-time verification code to prove that he is the owner of the account. 

After he gave the scammers the 6 digit verification code, they ended the call. 

So, you may think, how could someone steal my money using my Apple ID? Well, turns out, that many Apple users don't know that MetaMask actually saves your seed phrase on your iCloud.  

What the scammers did was this : 

• Scammers request random password resets to make the victim suspicious.
• They call the victim, say something about suspicious activity and ask for confirmation (the 6 digit verification code).
• They access the iCloud and all your passwords including MetaMask secret phrases.

They stole using this new method about $650.000 from a single wallet.

Also, here are a few pointers so you keep your money safe:

1. Protect your information and keep multiple passwords for your accounts. Avoid having only one password everywhere.
2. Do not use passwords that can be easily guessed like (password, 123456789, 000000)
3. Protect your information and keep your phone number and your personal email
4. Never give out verification codes to ANYONE.
5. Companies like Apple will probably not call you. EVER. Don’t fall for that.
6. Keeping your crypto assets in a cold wallet is safer.
7. If you own an Apple device try this : Settings -> Profile -> iCloud -> Manage Storage -> Backups -> select device and turn it off (MetaMask)
